The Smart Common Input Method project provides a platform for a simple method to map 'buttons' from common interface devices. This frees dependence from devices designed originally for persons with both high motor skills and experience of such devices (such as the mouse and keyboard, which have become ubiquitous over the years, although they are extraordinarily exclusive and represent a steep learning curve for persons who need rapid and practical access to computing devices).
